Riding the Range by Moonlight

We had an interesting evening last night. We were invited to dinner at a friend's ranch. There was good company, good food and good wine. After dinner the conversation turned to a new project that one of the other guests has in mind. She wants to put together upmarket trail rides. The venue would be the very ranch where we sat, and excitement began to build as the ranch's owner turned his attention to the project.

It's a property with a lot of history behind it's 20,000 acres, and many a scenic spot for tired riders to rest. Though it was already past sunset, we all piled into the rancher's big SUV and drove the 15 mile route he recommended for the trailride. We saw pecan orchards by moonlight with deer peeking through the ancient trees. We saw Pepe la Pue - fortunately he was not alarmed! And we saw an eagle's nest.

All in all it was a magical evening. I'll keep you posted when the trailrides start!
